You can search on the following fields within the metadata database: (See video to learn how to use the search resource.) Title:   The title by which the data layer is known. Keyword: One or more keywords associated with each data layer. Theme: One or more thematic areas associated with each data layer. Region: A named geographical region within which the data layer is fully contained Downloadable: A list of all the layers than can be downloaded from the MIDA or from the data owners’ web sites is returned. Area: Select a geographical area which is fully enclosed within the data layer. You can also carry out an advanced search which allows combinations of the above fields or the possibility to search for any words within the Discovery metadata records. Standard Search • Advanced Search • Search Results Standard Search Title: Enter one or more words that should appear in the title. If you enter more than one word, ALL the words must be present in the title. A metadata record will not be selected if only some of the words are present. To start the search click on . top Keyword: Choose one or more keywords from the scrollable list, by clicking with the mouse on the word to be selected. To choose two or more keywords, hold down the CTRL key and click with the mouse on the words to be selected. Keywords from all the layers have been extracted automatically and placed in the list. To start the search click on . top Theme: Choose one or more themes from the scrollable list, by clicking with the mouse on the word to be selected. To choose two or more themes, hold down the CTRL key and click with the mouse on the words to be selected. Each layer has been associated with one or more of the following nine themes: Biology/Habitats Boundaries Imagery Infrastructure Oceanography Physical Features Protected Areas Tourism/Recreation Wildlife To start the search click on . top Region: Choose one or more regions from the scrollable list, by clicking with the mouse on the region to be selected. To choose two or more regions, hold down the CTRL key and click with the mouse on the words to be selected. Each layer is associated with only one region. Regions include the following: The Island of Ireland The Republic of Ireland Northern Ireland The Four Provinces The 18 coastal counties Seven city and county burroughs Five sea areas To start the search click on . top Downloadable: A list of all the layers than can be downloaded from the MIDA or from the data owners' web sites is returned. To start the search click on . top Area: Click on the small map of Ireland to choose the geographical area. A new window is opened containing a map of Ireland and four text boxes at the bottom. Choose by clicking on the mouse and dragging a rectangle over the area to be searched. You may also enter the search area in decimal degrees in the text boxes. A list of layers, within which the selected area is fully enclosed is returned. For example if you choose a rectangle around Co. Tyrone, all layers covering the Northeast Atlantic, Territorial limits, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland will be returned as the area selected is completely inside the rectangles defining these areas. To start the search click on . top Advanced Search A new window is opened. You can search on any combination of the following fields within the metadata database: Title   The title by which the data layer is known. Keyword   One or more keywords associated with each data layer. Theme   One or more thematic areas associated with each data layer. Region   A named geographical region which is fully contained within the data layer. Downloadable   A list of all the layers than can be downloaded from the MIDA or from the data owners’ web sites is returned. Free Search   Search for any word in any part of the metadata records. To include a field in the search, click on the tick box located to the left of that field. To exclude a field from the search, make sure there is no tick in the box, or turn off a selected field by clicking in the box. Once a field is selected you may enter text in text boxes, or choose one or more words from the scrollable lists shown on the right. and   By selecting and only those layers containing all the options selected will be returned. For example, if you select lagoons under title and boundaries under Theme, only those layers containing both these elements will be returned. In fact no layers will be returned as this combination is not present in the atlas! or   By selecting or those layers containing either field or all fields under the options selected will be returned. For example, if you select lagoons under title and boundaries under Theme, all layers containing either or both of these elements will be returned. In this case a number of layers will be returned. Once you have set up your options, click the Submit Query button. top Search Results Window If no layers were found matching your search, the message "Found no results" is returned. If layers matching the search criteria were found, they are shown in the format below. The elements contained in the information tab are returned for each layer. Access to the metadata and download is also available via the appropriate icons.
